Thiago Silva, the Brazilian veteran defender has been told by sporting director Leonardo that he will not be offered a new contract after the 2019/20 Champions League campaign. However, he feels he still has plenty to offer. So where could he be playing his football in the 2020/21 season?
Napoli could be close to losing their key man Kalidou Koulibaly and might have a centre back hole. Silva could be the answer to that problem. Gennaro Gattuso, who is now the Napoli, is a former teammate of Silva’s (AC Milan). He is a keen admirer and believes that Silva can still produce for one the biggest clubs in Napoli.
A move to Italy is something that Silva would be keen on.
This could be a massive coup for Everton. There is a sense that Carlo Ancelotti is on the brink of a massive rebuild and could get an Everton side going that could challenge for the top six next season. However, he might be inclined to join up with a former player of his to solidify his defence and bring some experience to the back line. He would be a great influence at the Merseyside club.
Atletico Madrid, Spain
Diego Simeone is known for his rugged defensive attitude and make it incredibly hard for his team to be broken down. However, recently in La Liga they have not been as strong as the Argentine would have hoped. With some defensive fragilities at the club Silva would be able to bring consistency and leadership to a side who have lacked these qualities since losing Diego Godin to Inter Milan last summer.
AC Milan, Italy
The former Brazil captain has plenty of positive stock amongst pundits and fans of Serie A. A move could be on the cards to his former side with many good times still fresh in the memory; especially winning Serie A in 2010/11. Milan have also recently brought back Zlatan Ibrahimovic so are not scared to return to players they previously had.
This looks unlikely given he has expressed a desire to still play in Europe, especially in Italy. However, having started his career with the Brazilian outfit there might be a desire to finish his career off there. If Fluminense are to finance the deal they will have to make him their priority and they might not be willing to do this.
The move to Fluminense might be the transfer after this one.
